Grant helps improve efficiency
Background
Hotshots wanted to install a new modern energy efficient lighting system in three of their salons in Basildon, Billericay and Rayleigh to reduce their energy use and electricity costs.
Hotshots were established in 1998 and have eight salons across Essex. They wanted to upgrade the lighting system to reduce their costs in the salons in Basildon, Billericay and Rayleigh.
They consulted with Brighter Green who were able to advise and draw up a project plan that suited the needs of Hotshots. They sourced and fitted the new low energy lighting system required, replacing the old system.
Hotshots were referred to Low Carbon Business for a grant to aid with the costs of the project. They were able to guide Hotshots through the application process and secure a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant towards the 40% of the cost of the project.
The availability of funding from Low Carbon Business meant it was possible for the project to be completed and new lighting to be installed in all three salons.
Of the total project cost of £7,825 the Programme was able to approve an ERDF grant for £2664.
Outcomes
As a result of the grant it is expected that Hotshots will reduce their carbon emissions by 28 tonnes per annum as a result of reducing their energy use by 40,000 kWh a year. Also cost savings are expected to be made with electricity costs reduced by £5000 a year.
