Johnson Gillies - Surveying a more effective boiler

Background

Johnson Gillies premises was being heater by inefficient gas heaters that result in high energy bills. So they contacted Low Carbon Business for assistance with lowering these costs.

Johnson Gillies was founded in 1986 and moved into their Shoeburyness office in 2003. They are Chartered Building Surveyors and Consultants and also have an office in London.

The Shoeburyness office was heated by inefficient gas convector heaters which as well as resulting in high energy bills was ineffective and not providing comfortable working conditions.

Johnson Gillies decided that they wanted to improve the efficiency of their heating by installing an efficient new boiler and central heating system.

Having decided what they would like to do Johnson Gillies got in touch with Low Carbon Business for assistance with cost of the project.

Low Carbon Business was able to provide the support of a Business Energy Advisor who helped Johnson Gillies with selecting the best project for themselves.

As a result of this support, Johnson Gillies worked with Low Carbon Business to put together an application for a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant to replace the inefficient gas heaters with a new boiler and central heating system that would save the company a significant amount in their future energy bills.

Outcomes

After receiving approval for the grant Johnson Gillies were able to install a new efficient BIASI RIVA PLUS HE boiler and remove all the gas convertor heaters and replace it with a more effective central heating system.

The project cost of replacing the boiler was £6,300 of which the Low Carbon Business Programme was able to reimburse a 40% grant of £2,100 from ERDF funding. The project will result in an annual saving of £1,267 in energy costs and more efficient heating which will improve working conditions.

Furthermore, the CO2 reduction impact of using 31,667 kWh less gas per annum equates to 5.87 tonnes of CO2 savings each year.
