Grant supports lighting improvements
Background
John Coysten Catering are meat suppliers based in Basildon. They knew they could reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their energy bills by replacing their lighting system with a more efficient one.
The existing lighting system at John Coysten Catering was resulting in high energy bills and was inefficient as well. They wanted to replace it with a low energy system but did not have the funds for the project.
To assist with the project they consulted with Brighter Green who were able to make recommendations to John Coysten Meats on the best lighting solution for them. They were also able to source and supply the goods and fitters required for the project.
Brighter Green then referred John Coysten Catering to Low Carbon Business who were able to assist by guiding them through an application for a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant to help with 40% of the cost of the project.
The grant enabled for the lighting system to be replaced with low energy lighting that uses less energy and should result in a reduction in the company’s energy bills.
Outcomes
The project cost of replacing the lighting system was £6075, of which the Low Carbon Business Programme was able to reimburse £2068 from ERDF funding.
As a result of the Programme’s assistance, John Coysten Catering is expected to be able reduce their electricity demand by 9000 units a year and reduce their carbon footprint by 5 tonnes per annum. It is expected that the energy efficiency of the new system will also save about £1000 a year in energy bills.
