Grant helps improve efficiency
Background
Impossible Creations are custom designers and 3D model manufacturers, based in Thurrock. The business was wasting materials produced in the prototype stages of production including a lot of paper usage. By purchasing a CAD system the company would be able to reduce the current levels of waste.
By purchasing the proposed software, Impossible Creations would be able to create digitalized prototypes of their models, reducing wastage of raw materials.
The software also enables the company to utilize the additive manufacturing technique, which allows the product to be built through adding raw materials to form until finished. This ultimately would reduce their wastage by 50% per annum.
The software would also enable a reduction of paper wastage in the business by 95% as they would no longer be required to print manuals.
They knew they could improve the process by purchasing a Computer Aided Design (CAD) system that would design the models virtually and then would send the design to the machine to manufacture, making the process quicker and allowing for more work to be taken on.
Knowing what they wanted Impossible Creations came to Low Carbon Business to assist them, with the project. Low Carbon Business were able to guide them through an application for a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant towards 40% of the project costs.
Outcomes
The project cost of installing the new Computer Aided Design Software was £5,250 of which the Low Carbon Business Programme was able to approve a 40% grant of £2,100 from ERDF funding.
As a result of the grant Impossible Creations are expected to be able to reduce their energy use by 4038 kWh per annum and reduce waste production by 1.9 tonnes. This should result in a CO2 reduction of 2.2 tonnes. Additionally the project should see Impossible Creations make cost savings of up to £2000.
