Grant helps improve efficiency
Background
Horizon Estate Agents approached the Low Carbon Business Programme with a project to make their air conditioning system more energy efficient and effective to create a better working environment.
Horizon Estate Agents have over 50 years worth of experience and have been located in their current location in Rochford since 2004. The heating and cooling of the office was ineffective. They had to rely on electric heaters that would be on 12 hours a day to heat the office and had only 1 window they could open to provide cooling in the summer.
They approached Low Carbon Business to help by providing a grant for 40% of the cost of installing a new air conditioning system. This would provide better heating and cooling that would improve staff performance by creating a more comfortable working environment.
The grant enabled Horizon Estate Agents to install a central ceiling cassette air conditioning system provides better comfort for the staff and customers as well as being more energy efficient than the old electric heaters.
Of the total project cost of £5,298 the Programme was able to approve a European Regional Development Fund grant for £2119.
Outcomes
As a result of the Programme’s assistance, Horizon Estate Agents are expected to be able to reduce their electricity demand by 6000 kWh a year and reduce their carbon footprint by 3.27 tonnes per annum. The grant has also enabled savings to be made, with approximately £450 being saved per annum on energy bills.
