Grant helps improve efficiency
Background
1 Big Self Storage provides storage in East Tilbury. They knew they could reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their energy bills by replacing their lighting system with a more efficient one.
The existing lighting system at 1 Big Self Storage was resulting in high energy bills and it was inefficient as well. They wanted to replace it with a low energy system that had sensors to make it more energy efficient.
The company knew that if they could install more efficient lighting then they could lower their energy costs.
Low Carbon Business were able to assist by guiding them through an application for a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant to help with 40% of the cost of the project.
The grant enabled for the lighting system to be replaced with low energy lighting that uses less energy and should result in a reduction in the company’s energy bills.
The grant enabled the company to install PIR sensors within their historical storage warehouse so as to further reduce their energy costs.
Outcomes
The project cost of replacing the lighting system was £7,335.07, of which the Low Carbon Business Programme was able to reimburse £2,934.03 from ERDF funding.
As a result of the Programme’s assistance, 1 Big Self Storage is expected to be able reduce their electricity demand by 12,000 kWh a year and reduce their carbon footprint by 6.55 tonnes per annum. It is expected that the energy efficiency of the new system will also save about £1,680 a year in energy bills.
