Local accountancy firm AWC Business Solutions is the latest recipient of a carbon reduction grant courtesy of the Low Carbon Business programme.
AWC Business Solutions is based in Leigh on Sea, but also has an office in Southfields Business park in Laindon. The firm has been in operation since 2009.
AWC Business Solutions wanted to purchase and install a new heating system to replace the old and inefficient one that was already in place. The new system would reduce the businesses carbon footprint whilst heating and cooling the office quicker.
The existing heating and cooling protocol was to turn on a portable electric heater or open a window so this would be a lot more efficient and manageable for the business!
Low Carbon Business helped the firm in the application for a European Regional Development Funded grant towards this project.
The grant was approved at the grants panel and the work went ahead installing the new air cooling systems in the office. AWC Business Solutions spent £5,495 on the new system for which the business received 40% at £2,198 in the form of a grant.
The business is expecting to reduce its annual electricity usage by 14,263kWh, which means that the business will be able to reduce its CO2 output by 7.48 tonnes each year. On top of this the business will be saving £1,426.30 every year.
The firm is very happy with the new units that have been placed in the account offices. The heating and cooling units will make sure that the office keeps a comfortable temperature all year round. Heating the office during the winter months and cooling it in the summer.
